Belk, Charlotte, North Carolina, is the United States' largest privately-held department store chain.
It was founded in Monroe, North Carolina, in 1888 by William Henry Belk, and the chain is still family-owned. The chain currently has over 200 stores in 14 states, mostly in the South and in particular the Carolinas.
In 2005, Belk purchased the Proffitt's and McRae's department stores from Saks Incorporated.
Their flagship store is located at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte and encompasses 329,000 square feet (31,000 m²).
